“The Computing Professional Skills on-line discussions really improved the way I problem-solve and learn. It expanded my thinking because we heard so many different perspectives from our colleagues. Over the 12 days discussion, we practiced and became good at backing up what we said with evidence and especially our opinions with facts.
In our culture it is difficult for women and men to communicate with each other, let alone engage with one another in problem solving and the like. However this activity broke down the barriers; I felt equal with men in the online environment and before the 12 days ended I felt comfortable working with them face-to-face.
I used to have the habit of not listening to others’ ideas and being unwilling to change my viewpoint. This activity has really changed that – I now realize that my idea may not be the best and that I need to consider a variety of other viewpoints and perspectives.”
